I have been meaning to get to this for a couple of days, so this is not breaking news today.  In some ways, its not really news.  Is anyone really surprised that lobbyists control the public debate that lawmakers have?

This NY Times article describes how more then a dozen elected officials made statements of record and speeches drafted almost word for word by biotechnology lobbyists.  This crosses party lines, with almost the same number of Republicans and Democrats having their speeches dictated to them.

Ok, so your local congressman is saying what the lobbyists tell them to say.  Big surprise.  What bothers me here is the simple laziness of not changing the text at all.  How hard is that?  And the absolute lack of shame these guys have to be populating house records with speeches and statements paid for by large companies.

Monopoly may be the next board game to become a movie, if it can beat Risk to a theater near you.  Brother Greg talked about the Risk movie and lo and behold – a couple of days later I come across this LA Times article on Ridley Scott and the Monopoly movie he has in the works.

For your sake, I did a quick google search on board games made into moves. The only one I could think of was Clue. I think that’s correct, as long as Jumanji doesn’t count. As to my search, apparently Boil Before Drinking has maintained its successful record of being at least six months behind the news, and there are movie adaptions in the works for:

Clue (again)
Candy Land

I am not going to count a planned Ouija Board movie because Ouija Board is not a board game. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Check out the link though for some funny commentary on the Ouija movie.

Why bother to make a Ouija movie anyways, when Witchboard is available? Oh wait, someone is remaking Clue.

The study found that more than two-thirds of female short-nosed fruit bats (Cynopterus sphinx) performed fellatio on their sexual partners, and that they were rewarded with longer bouts of intercourse as a result.

Previously, the only animals known to carry out oral sex – apart from humans – were bonobo chimpanzees.

Go home perverts. This is science. Interesting stuff for sure, beyond the obvious bat blow job snickering. Its easy to see how this trait would have evolved, with the fellating females having a clear reproductive advantage. It would not surprise me if this is now found in other species, if people think to look for it. Might it have some implications on the practice in humans? Possibly, but its worth noting that the fruit bats are combining fellatio with intercourse at the same time. Even if this were physically possible, the second, more important observation, is that it prolongs intercourse. Personally, I don’t quite see this happening for humans.

There is nothing really new in this Wall Street journal article, yet its a nice summary of where we stand now and where we are heading in communication technology.  I still do not have any motivation to use Twitter.  If someone wants to follow my Tweets, let me know and I’ll consider it. 

The End of the Email Era – WSJ.com
